My plan is to now before summer is here create a fun theme with matching activities for each week of the summer. I figure it will run much smoother if I plan it all ahead so I am going to work on that now before June ends.
So today I thought I would update you on what I have so far.I've created themes for each week of the summer and broken those themes into days about specific things. Over the next couple weeks
Week #1 & #2 - June 29th to July 6th
This week the boys will be away with my mom for a whole week! Grandma's & Grandpa's Rock! Week #2 & #3 - July 8th to 17th
Our Community - I'm going to theme this week around the difference between the city and county and the people that make up these types of communities. We are going to talk about transportation and I will also talk to the kids about food. This will tie in nicely with the farming lessons and will lead into learning about the different food groups.Week #4 - July 18th to 24th
Pirates - This week will be loosely pirate themed. I'm going to use the pirate platform to teach the kids about reading and making maps, we are going to learn about the oceans and ocean life, and I want to also use the "treasure" to create a lesson on money/counting/math.Week #5 - July 25th to 31st
Dinosaurs - This week we will learn about dinosaurs, fossils, and volcanoes. I'll also use the dinosaur theme to talk about birds, reptiles and amphibians.Week #6 - August 1st to 7th
Space - This week we will learn about the solar system. There is so much the kids would be interested in like learning about the sun, moon, stars and planets. I will also use this topic to discuss caring for our planet. I'll introduce the importance of sustainability to my kids, hopefully this will be a lesson they'll carry through their whole lives.Week #7 - August 8th to 14th
Nature - I think after learning about caring for the environment a week of looking at how wonderful the natural world is would be a great next week of activities. I want to teach the kids about weather and the water cycle, we're going to learn about how plants grow and we are going to take a look at bugs! My boys love bugs!Week #8 - August 15th to 21st
Super Heroes - This week I will use Super Heroes as a platform to teach the kids about the human body and how it works. We'll talk about our senses, the different parts and systems within the body. The end of this week we will look into the world of comic books and the art of creating comic books.Week #9 - August 22nd to 28th
The Arts - This week we are going to explore the different types of art. Obviously there are many many forms but I would like to focus on drawing/painting, sculpting, music, dance, and finally photography and film.Week #10 - August 29th to September 5th
Around the World - This final week we are going to take a journey around the world. We will start with a map of the world and identify the continents and what is on them. Then we'll look at a few areas in more depth. I haven't decided officially on all the countries yet but I think we will look at Canada (obviously), France (my son is in French immersion), Scandinavia, India, China, and Chile (we have family members with a Chilean background). We will look at the different foods, clothing, holidays, and art from these different parts of the world.I think that the boys and I are going to have a lot of fun this summer and this summer I will update you on how each week went, and I will probably share each of the lesson plans I put together too.
